Psalm 90:1-6, 13-17 New Living Translation (NLT)

Any absence of godly leaders does not mean the absence of God or his love.  He alone is our dwelling place; our eternal Home and our Hope.  We must never forget it is by faith, as finite beings, we enjoy the eternal refuge of our Creator and Father.  We will go through times of pain and trouble, but God is still with us.  He is not bound by time for He is the Creator of time.  He does not lack power for He is sovereign and everlasting.  Even if all our circumstances aligned with our will, we would not be satisfied unless we were enjoying fellowship with the Lord.  It is the Lord who makes the difference in human existence.

In this morning’s passage, Moses shares a prayer portraying this truth.  The people of God are facing the absence of a Davidic king, but Moses reminds them that God is really their Home and King. It is God who will save us and bring us into the Eternal promised Land.  For those who have met Jesus, we know He is the Way.  This is the only psalm ascribed to Moses, so it is a very important one.

Psalm 90: 1-6, 13-17  A prayer of Moses, the man of God.

Lord, through all the generations

    you have been our home!

Before the mountains were born,

before you gave birth to the earth and the world,

from beginning to end, you are God.

You turn people back to dust, saying,

    “Return to dust, you mortals!”

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,

as brief as a few night hours.

You sweep people away like dreams that disappear.

They are like grass that springs up in the morning.

In the morning it blooms and flourishes,

but by evening it is dry and withered.

13

O Lord, come back to us!

    How long will you delay?

    Take pity on your servants!

14

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love,

so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.

15

Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery!

Replace the evil years with good.

16

Let us, your servants, see you work again;

let our children see your glory.

17

And may the Lord our God show us his approval

    and make our efforts successful.

    Yes, make our efforts successful!

Prayer:  Lord, thank you for being my true Home.  As I spend time with you in prayer and fellowship, I know that is true.  My spirit finds great comfort and shalom in your presence.  Thank you!  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
