Psalm 15 New Living Translation (NLT)

Our words matter if we are interested in building up relationships as God’s children; we cannot just throw out comments that hurt people and still please God. We are called to be worshipers of the Most High and that means we live to please our Father.  It means we know when to shut our mouths if we are tempted to harm others with our words.

In David’s song, he sings about the heart that may know a deep intimate place of worship with God.  In this song, how we use our words can either connect us with God or distance us from God.

Psalm 15  A psalm of David.

Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord?

Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?

Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right,

speaking the truth from sincere hearts.

Those who refuse to gossip

    or harm their neighbors

or speak evil of their friends.

Those who despise flagrant sinners,

and honor the faithful followers of the Lord,

and keep their promises even when it hurts.

Those who lend money without charging interest,

and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent.

Such people will stand firm forever.

Prayer:  Lord, in this world there seems to be a spiritual battle going on with words; conflict and deception are busy dividing.  Help me to guard my words carefully so I may not sin against you or my neighbor.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
