Interruptions are Messy Day 12

Interruptions are Messy

Read:  Mark 2:1-12

Tuesday 3/3/15   Day 12

Ponder:  Jesus has gained popularity and has returned home.  Many people have come to hear his teaching; perhaps out of curiosity. These are the folks who knew Jesus before his public ministry. In the middle of his teaching, Jesus faces a  totally unexpected and messy interruption.  What do you do when everywhere you look there is something or someone wanting your attention? The word “overwhelmed” comes to mind.  This Scripture uses the phrase, “and the ceiling opened up.” (smile)

Practice:  I’m sure you can relate to being in the middle of something when you are interrupted, right?  What you are doing is important, but this messy interruption changes your entire focus and you must deal with it right then.  There is no ignoring this interruption.  What you were doing has to be set aside.

Prayer:  Father, I like my days to be orderly and predictable.  Sometimes I like being in control, but must admit life is messy.  I can tell from this lesson that sometimes messy interruptions are ways for you to get something better to me.  Help me to be responsive to the work of your grace in my life today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Mission:  Telling our stories to others is a way of sharing wisdom.  Share with someone today about a time when a messy interruption--something that overwhelmed you at the time--opened up good things for you when you were willing to embrace the moment.  God promises to make all things work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
